Walking Techniques

Walking Technique

You've been doing it since you were about 1 year old, but if you want to get fit and decrease the risk of getting injured, try these techniques:

     1.     Think tall and walk with good posture

  • Keep a neutral spine with your head stacked over your shoulders and your hips over your knees and feet.
  1. With each step, your heel touches the ground first then roll over the ball of your foot onto your toes. Push off with your toes.
  • Have your knee, heel and toes pointed forward in the direction of travel
  • One foot bears all your weight until your other heel strikes the ground
  1. Swing arms naturally at your sides in opposition to your legs.
  • For more intensity and speed, bend your elbow to 90 degrees
  •  Keep elbows close to your body and swing your hands to chest level
  1. You should be able to carry out a normal conversation while walking.
  • Any time you feel out of breath or have any pain, slow down or take a break.
